Mary Jane Blige [born January 11th 1971 in The Bronx, NYC, New York] is an American RnB, soul, and hip hop soul singer, songwriter, occasional rapper, record producer, actress, and hip hop icon who has sold more than 40 million records worldwide and over 5 million singles world wide. She is widely known as the "Queen of Hip Hop Soul", and has also received over twenty-six Grammy Award nominations for her works, winning six. Early in her career, Blige's highly personal songs and gritty voice earned her comparisons to earlier soul singers such as Chaka Khan and Aretha Franklin; however her artistic evolution and commercial success throughout the years has seen her exert her own influence over a new generation of artists.

'Growing Pains' is the eighth studio album by American RnB-soul singer Mary J. Blige, released in the U.S.A. on December 18th 2007. "It's not reliving where I been. [The album is] just based on where I am", Blige told MTV News on October 22nd 2007 on the set of the video for her new single, 'Just Fine'. 'Growing Pains' sold 629,000 copies in its first week and debuted at No.2 on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart and No.1 on the RnB chart. In its second week the album climbed to No.1 on the Billboard 200 with 204,000 copies sold. The U.K. version of the album to be released on February 4th 2008, includes the tracks, 'Nowhere Fast', 'Hello It's Me', and 'Mirror', which were not included on the U.S.A. version.
